“I will pick up that label and wear it as a Badge of Honor.”
~ [Jimmy Smits as] Matt Santos, The West Wing
I am proud to be a liberal!!!
partial text:
Santos: It’s true, Republicans have tried to turn ‘liberal’ into a bad word. Well, liberals ended slavery in this country.
Vinick: A Republican president ended slavery.
Santos: Yes, a liberal Republican. What happened to them? They got run out of your party. What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican party? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created social security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They opposed every one of those programs. Every one. So when you try to hurl the word ‘liberal’ at my feet, as if it were dirty, something to run away from, something that I should be ashamed of, it won’t work, Senator, because I will pick up that label and wear it as a badge of honor.

I don’t know if giving up Cheetos or Oreos is really an equivalent, but okay. These people will not be eating their favorite snacks for a loooong time.
“I will do a bread and milk/water fast every tuesday and friday until the day that abortion ends. I will also give up my pillow.”
Wait. Seriously? This woman is going to be without a pillow for the rest of her life!
I also think that this is more or less an excuse to get healthy and give up personal vices. There’s a lot of no soda, ice cream, junk food, cookies, etc.
Sounds like my New Years Resolution every year. It never works.
I’M GIVING UP FOOD UNTIL ABORTION ENDS.

If food stamps worked at Trader Joes and Whole Foods then maybe we’d see different results? I mean I had a friend who used her moms ebt to buy snacks at the bodega and like, that was awesome for me, but her family cant live off of gum and honey buns.

The things they (republicans) are saying keep getting more and more ridiculous. Only it’s not ridiculous because they are striking a chord with a huge number of their flock. That’s what’s ridiculous. And scary. People who cross my path everyday believe this shit and they don’t wear signs so I don’t know who to smack.

The fucked up thing is that food stamps do work at most (if not all) grocery stores now. But the prices at places like Whole Foods & Trader Joe’s are too high especially when you consider the average food stamp allotment is less than a $100 a month per person.

Does… does he really not see the connection? We make it so poor people can only afford low-quality food, and then we’re surprised when some of them end up with a weight problem because of it? And making food even LESS accessible is the solution to this problem? WHAT THE FUCK. Yeah, forcing families to live on ten-pound bags of white rice for weeks at a time is totally going to fix our country’s nutrition problems.

Public health care can’t keep up with body modifications
Public health authorities across Canada are struggling to address the growing popularity of body modifications such as splitting one’s tongue like a snake’s and surgically altering ears to make them elf-like and pointy, fearing the spread of infection in an unregulated industry.
Last Wednesday, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health’s board of health received a report warning that one can suffer a “serious or possibly life-threatening consequence” while undergoing one of these surgical-like procedures in a “non-clinical” environment where there’s a higher threat of contracting HIV or hepatitis B and C.
Scarification, which is effectively carving or branding an image into your skin, and suspension, which involves being hung from the ceiling on hooks lodged into your back, are among the more common forms of extreme body modification happening in tattoo and piercing shops across the country who often yield to squeamish health inspectors who judge before they do their work, body modifiers say. This is just ridiculous! Trees don’t equal Christmas or Christianity. Get over yourselves.
